10-Week Online Course: Leadership and Motivation

Description

This is a 10-week course that runs from April 13 – June 21, 2026, and is designed for construction professionals who want to strengthen their leadership and supervisory skills in the field. This Construction Superintendent Training Course helps participants discover the leadership styles and strategies it takes to be an effective leader in the construction industry. The course focuses on practical leadership techniques, communication, problem solving, and managing crews to keep projects running safely and efficiently.

The Certificate in Construction Supervision: Building includes this class. This class is 100% online. Students should expect to spend 3-5 hours a week on course work from April 13 - June 21, 2026.

Learning Objectives:

  • Use various styles of leadership and determine what type of leadership behavior is appropriate for the situation
  • Be able to apply basic management skills, ideas and principles that will be allow you to function more efficiently as a construction supervisor
  • Be able to coach your workers to obtain the desired results
  • Know the basics of the “science” of human motivation including the theories of Maslow and Hertzberg
  • Be able to lead by setting goals, by communicating openly and by setting a good example
  • Be able to get commitment from your workers and maintain control of your work crews

Course modules will be made available to students on Sunday of each week. Class work must be completed before the following Monday. Students will not be able to work ahead of the class although reading assignments will be made available in advance. Actual dates that modules will become available will be posted in advance on the course calendar. Students should provide at least 3 contributions to the class discussions each week to gain the maximum points.

Students are responsible for purchasing a textbook, STP Unit 1, Leadership and Motivation 6th Edition, Participants Manual, that they may keep. The cost of each textbook is approximately $156 plus shipping and handling. If you order a used book be sure you are getting the 2015 edition.

Allow at least 5 working days between ordering the book and receiving it by the least expensive shipping. Foreign students should allow at least 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. You can have your book delivered more quickly by paying more for the shipping.

The deadline to receive a refund for event registration is (7) seven business days before the event. Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund.
